Q. What is the difference between limited AKC papers and full AKC papers? A. Limited papers means the dog cannot be shown in conformation and none of it's offspring can be registered. With full registration, the offspring can be registered and the dog can be shown. That does not mean the dog is show quality, only that it has full registration and if it is good enough quality it can be shown and/or bred.
Q. What is the difference between teacup, toy, minature and standard poms besides size? A. First off let me point out there is no teacup, toy, minature or standard size poms, there is only one standard for the breed, though many pups are produced that are larger or smaller than the current standard set forth by AKC and the APC of 3-7 lbs. Even dedicated responsible breeders will occasionally get larger or smaller pups depending on the lines, as all poms used to at one time be 30 lbs. Some breeders will use those terms as a sales gimmick, just to make a profit, or some just to better clarify size differences. Not all pups will be to the standard for the breed in conformation or size, but a good breeder tries to stay within the standard and doesn't breed for pet only quality pups.
Q. What are some of the common health issues with poms? A. All breeds have health issues and concerns. Poms are no exception. I do my best to avoid these issues and do not knowingly breed any dogs with them. Some of the issues are outlined on my tips page here. I am always happy to go into more detail as needed with those seeking to learn more about the breed.
